About Celine Dion

The One and Only Celine Dion

She is CelineDion

Her voice crosses borders, boundaries and musical styles and her elegant presentation seems to grow stronger over the years, as does her magnificent and heart-wrenching sound. She is CelineDion, the best-selling female artist of all time and her story is as fascinating as her powerful vocals. Whether in her home country of Canada, singing to the French in Paris, or presenting her personalized ballads in her own intimate Las Vegas theater, Celine has a combination of star power and sensitivity that is unparalleled in today’s entertainment world.

Celine Dion - The Early Years
Although she is now a Canadian national treasure and an international superstar, Celine Dion was born to a humble family in a small town in Québec. Although there wasn’t much money, her life was rich in love and music. The whole family even performed as a group in local concerts. Mama Thérèse realized her youngest daughter’s talent and sent impresario René Angélil a cassette of a song that Celine wrote when she was only 12 years old. The little girl’s sound so impressed René that he mortgaged his house to finance her career, and thus began a musical collaboration of legendary proportions. By the time she was 14 years old, Celine had won the gold medal in Tokyo’s Yamaha World Popular Song Festival and it was clear to all who saw and heard her that she was on her way to superstardom. Her signature hand gestures and postures were already developed and she mesmerized audiences with her passionate delivery. Next, she stormed France before returning to Montréal to perform in front of the Pope. After that, her career took on a fairytale aspect; by the time she was 24, she had both a Grammy and an Academy Award, thanks to the theme song of “Beauty and the Beast.” Two years later, she was performing “The Power of Love” for U.S. President Clinton and soon revealed that she was in love with her manager and mentor, René Angélil, whom she would soon marry and share the treasure of the births of three sons. It was their unique partnership that would create the next step in her career: Las Vegas.
Celine Takes Vegas – The First Time

Celine Dion has ruled the stage at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas for the better part of a decade, with some breaks for valuable family time. The show was the brainchild of her husband and business partner, René, always the visionary. This time, his vision was one that only Celine could fulfill. To begin with, he created a 4000-seat theater just for her show in Caesar’s. It began as what he called a “residency,” and Celine was booked for five nights a week for three years, backed by dancers and special effects created by Franco Dragone of Cirque du Soleil fame. Celine was held over for a total of five years and was sold out every night through the end of 2007.

Celine Return to Caesar’s Colosseum

After the death of her husband René, Celine Dion returned to the stage in the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. The passion that she shared with her husband was to always to illuminate the lives of her fans and to allow them to, in turn, illuminate hers. It was a tribute to their love and she threw herself into it with all her heart. Her performance at the Billboard Music Awards was “The Show Must Go On.” And so it does. At last word, the new queen of Las Vegas will stay on until 2019…at least.

The Show
Glamour, drama, gorgeous costumes and a full orchestra frame Celine Dion’s tour de force performances that include not just her greatest hits but also tributes to musical giants ranging from the Bee Gees and Queen to Elvis Presley and Prince. In this incarnation of her timeless and continuously sold out show, her breathtaking stage wardrobe has been created by the likes of Versace, Schiaparelli and Thierry Mugler. To add to the spectacular presentation, the sets on the Colosseum stage are an astounding complement to the full orchestra and side band.   Even if you don’t have a front row seat, you won’t be deprived of an up-close view of this expressive and beautiful star, thanks to giant screens all around the indoor theater that is the Colosseum. Actually, the venue is not that large and the sound is magnificent, so unless you are fixated on looking her right in the eye, you’ll be happy even if you are in the less expensive seats. Besides, once you hear Celine’s beautiful voice filling the room, you’ll probably close your eyes to savor the experience.
When Celine’s Away, Other Stars Will Play
Celine Dion generally takes some off from Vegas during the summer months, giving her a chance not only to spend time with her children, but also to give her fans around the world a chance to see her in a smattering of concerts from Montréal to Paris. While she is away, her stand-ins include the likes of Rod Stewart, The Who, Elton John, Reba, Brooks & Dunn, and Mariah Carey. To add a bit of levity, you might also catch Steven Martin (an accomplished banjo player) and Martin Short in an evening of comedy and music. To see and hear Celine Dion is an experience that will have a profound effect upon even those who come to her performance for the first time. As she and her late husband René declared, the point of her music is to “illuminate lives,” and there is no doubt that the light shines brightly. When Celine sings, the spotlight seems to turn on the audience, and her fans leave feeling the lightness and love in their hearts.
